Avenge is putting new people on contracts requiring a TS...

As far as what is "smarter", I did the airlines and hated it. I have way more time at home right now and make a good living. I chose not to chase money a long time ago and could not be happier. Everyone will tell you what to do and where to go, but in the end, your happiness trumps everything. Right now, I am happy doing what I am doing. I would not be happy going back to the airlines, I know that.

Are they still paying capts 460/day?

All I had to do was google "B hut" and that was enough disincentive for me.

Different companies/contracts = different pay

you can make over 750+/day with some companies, which is much less then it was a few years ago, and is more than some pay today.

Quote: You need to have a current TS clearance or don't waste your time applying. I had an interview in December and they offered me a King Air Captain job if HR would foot the bill for a clearance update.

Never heard from them again.
So was it the housing or that they wouldn't pay to get your clearance back??
Because according to you, you have applied to AT LEAST one company within the last year, so you didn't have a problem with "B huts" then..

Not trying to start a flame war, but I've seen dozens of your posts regarding wanting to work overseas but not getting the job only because you didn't have a current clearance.....and now you are going to say you wouldn't go there because of the living conditions....really?? Lets be honest with ourselves....

Even at $750 a day assuming you spend 6 months a year out there (which is a lot in my opinion), that's only about 135K/yr BEFORE taxes. That's peanuts to go spend half your life in the sand and dust and get shot at. What are the bennies like at these places? Any retirement? Medical....in Afghanistan? Life insurance that will pay out if you are killed in a war zone? Sounds to me like a job for people looking to build turbine PIC and not accomplished prior military aviators. That 135K should be compensation for your security clearance alone with an ADDED $750/day for time spent downrange.

I wouldn't disagree with a single word you said brother! I will add that...
Some companies there DO offer 401k (with company contribution %), medical and life...
Very few outside of prior mil are going to have a clearance already in place due to the costs involved.
Now tell me where to sign up for a job that has starting pay of 270k and I'll put in my resume' today!!

Which is the point. Your clearance alone should be worth a lot to these companies. As far as the pay goes, 270k may be a bit of a stretch, but there are very few jobs outside of the military that incur the same amount of risk and/or impact your quality of life as much. These companies are getting a hell of a deal for guys this qualified at such a low cost and they must know it. Problem is, guys just out of the military are not very good at demanding what their worth. Our civilian brothers can teach us a thing or two here.

Unionize right? Well maybe that would be a good thing, but ask our Regional civilian brothers if they are getting paid what they're worth? Kind of getting off topic...but again I agree, we SHOULD get paid more...however there are many who are quite happy with what they are getting paid, because many are doing it....INSTEAD of going to the regionals, being away from your home just as much over the course of a year and getting paid 30k to do it!!

Once companies have problems filling seats....pay will go up...simple supply and demand....until then...
