Quote: Marry the right person...of course that's the real trick. Very helpful if the SO has a lucrative & portable career (doctor, nurse, software, accounting, etc).

Avoid other crew members...it's all globe-hopping fun on your days off until you have kids. After that it's probably 90% divorce rate unless somebody quits flying.
Marrying the right person is the answer. No way of knowing who the right person is however. Sometimes it is being the right person but even that is no guarantee. The best spouse can be married to a addict, good luck making that work.

marriage is already a temporary relationship that can be dissolved by either party without the consent of the other in today's world. This is how we have wanted it and there is no going back.

The right person is someone who understands the benefit of having a companion on life's journey, as opposed to a series of temporary hook-ups to satisfy the most pressing needs of the moment, and is willing to work to make it last. You also need enough in common so there's not excess friction.

Of course YOU have to be the "right person" too, otherwise don't bother...

Quote: 75%? Woah, that's like 10% over the average. Haha

Personally, I don't plan on ever getting married. The divorce rate is only going to go up.

Traditional marriage is a thing of the past.
The Divorce Rate is in the 30% range...it has never been close to 50 (Urban Legend) and nowhere remotely close to 65%.

Those numbers are drummed up by those justifying their counter-culture existence.

Quite a few academic and media reports have put that to bed recently (as a corollary to the Gay Marriage debate). Lies, damn lies, and statistics (primarily the interpretation thereof).

What you cited is the most flawed argument of them all.

Quote: Harsh, bro. Considering that some cultures or sub-cultures still enjoy a divorce rate of less than 1%, I would suggest that the increasing divorce rate isn't traditional marriage's fault.
I never said it was the marriages' fault. It's these (American / European ) societal changes.

For a man, there is really very little benefit to getting married these days (taxes / spousal legal benefits), but there are way more downsides. Hell, courts throw out pre-nups when they feel like it as well. Society has largely become socially anti-male.

My statistics were hyperbole obviously, but look at the source of the study and their agenda when you read someones.
