Default 3 Dead, 2 Injured - Frederick, MD

BREAKING NEWS: 3 dead, 2 injured as plane & helicopter collide in mid-air over Frederick, Md. | WJLA.com

I just got home. I wasn't flying today, but when I got the news it was an R44 I knew there was no way I didn't know someone in this.

I'm so miserable right now.... RIP Chris

The recording of the incident is on LiveATC. Warning it is very disturbing. Listen at your own will.

ATC messed up bad. She cleared the Cirrus after he told her he couldn't see the 3rd helo.

I've worked with her a lot when I've flown. She's always on the ball. I think she just got complacent....

Thank you very much. I appreciate it. This has been a tough couple years for this company.

I'm wondering if the Cirrus relied on the TIS or if it had Skywatch. A helo in the pattern might not show up.

Seems like the parachute saved the lives of the two on the Cirrus.
The guy called two helos in sight. Standard fixed wing pattern altitude is 1,000AGL for jets is 1,500 and what is it for helicopters? Cirrus was told to maintain altitude until turning base leg. Did he do that? Was the helo at the right altitude?

The audio is disturbing.

Well that was another one in the save column for the BRS. I am very sorry to hear about the three deceased in the R-44.

Names of the victims have been officially released so I don't mind sharing them now...

Christopher Parsons, 29, of Westminster, Maryland http://www.advancedhelicopter.com/site/staff.php
William Jenkins, 47, of Morrison, Colorado
Breandan MacFawn, 35, of Cumberland, Maryland

Chris was an excellent pilot and a great instructor.

May they all RIP

The other two instructors were the other two helos in the pattern. The Helo behind Zach and Nathan in the picture is the one involved in this accident.
