Not sure that having just helo time is hurting you. Its not having 135 IFR mins more so than the time issue. Ameriflight is usually good about hiring people with a non-traditional flight background. I went there with roughly 1800TT and only 400 or so airplane. I'd find a way to get to 1200TT and the rest of 135 IFR mins and apply again

Yeah I just got an email from Great Lakes Airlines for an interview with them. The 15 Mo contract at $16/flight hour is a tough pill to swallow, but I feel as if its my only option for flight hours, and FW flight hours at that. The way the federal budget is going, especially for the National Guard, flight hours at the unit are hard to come by. I do not want to encourage companies to continue to pay pilots crap wages, but I see no other options. Any and all advice is much appreciated.

You'd better rock those NDB approaches or we'll find a way to let your IFE know you need some special attention on your next APART.

After writing the last post I got to thinking about the new reg (750 TT as a military pilot) and whether that was an "in" for r/w pilots and the f/w 121 world.

haha will do! I only need 150 more flight hours (F/W) until I qualify for an ATP. I believe I could take that ride with Great Lakes. I know some of the regional's (PSA, Wisconsin Air, etc.) are already posting the 750TT ATP for Military Pilots. And I dont know if they bumped the pay up I am just going off the info on the airline profile page on this website.

Opportunity knocks if you don't chase it away. My suggestion is you look hard at GL and if they will take you, it won't be long before you have an ATP and type rating in the 1900. Add 1000 hours of PIC time and suddenly you're looking at being a serious contender for a major airline job.

Hopefully, Great Lakes will work out, but in the event it doesn't, try and get hold of a NBAA (National Business Aviation Association) directory and send your resume to all companies listed that have a helicopter in their flight department. Or, check with various state police flight departments that fly helos. Good luck.
