We are a group of students currently attending University of Tromsø School of Aviation, graduating with a CPL and a Bachelor’s degree in aviation Summer 2015. As a part of our education, we are writing a bachelor thesis concerning the use of “low-timers"/inexperienced pilots in airlines throughout the world, and therefore conducting an anonymous survey.

Before you think "Crap, another questionnaire" consider this:
At some point in your career you either have been flying as a “low-timer”/inexperienced pilot, or you have been flying with a “low-timer”/inexperienced pilot in a multi-crew concept.

In the event of an upcoming pilot shortage, how would the increased use of "low-timers" affect the industry?
Do the "low-timers" of today perform to their own expectations?
Are the Captains flying alongside the "low-timers" satisified?
We wish to obtain the opinions and the experience of the pilots on these questions.

The survey takes between 5 and 10 minutes.

So, who are these "low-timers”, you might ask?
Here is our definition:
"A low-timer is a pilot who after graduation from flight school has acquired a minimum amount of flying hours before attending a type-rating course followed by employment in an airline. The amount of hours should not exceed 600 hours."

We understand that there might be arguments against this definition. Perhaps there are pilots with more than 600 hours whom you do not consider low-timers, but whom you still think of as inexperienced?
If you feel that your experience corresponds to what we described in the beginning of this introduction, we strongly urge you to answer the questionnaire anyway.
You will have the possibility of stating your own opinion of a "low-timer" during the survey if you feel our definition is faulty, or does not cover your own definition of a “low-timer”.
