UAL Scope, Jan 2016, 70 seat aircraft

After Jan 2016, It looks like UAL will have to reduce the number of 70 seat aircraft to 102 to increase the number of 76 seat aircraft to the maximum of 153 allowed by the scope clause. Even if UAL adds a 100 seat narrow body, which will increase to number of 76 seat aircraft allowed by scope, the optimal number of 70 seat aircraft will remain 102.

So, who is losing 70 seat airplanes? This would really only effect CRJ700s and E170s.

The link below is the simplest description of the United scope clause. It's 3 years old, but I don't think the clause has changed since then.

This link isn't current, but has a fairly recent breakdown of the UAX fleet.

RAH's 170's seem like an obvious target.

You think so? Who operates CRJ-700's for UAX? I believe those will be the likely target.

Somehow SKW will probably get additional 700 flying. (sarcasm)

That would be nice wouldn't it?

Mesa has quite a few 700's in IAD for United. Doubt we are losing any.

Pretty sure the older SKW 700s are already identified as getting parked. I know Mesa's and believe gojet's are contracted thru 2020/2021.

1-C-1-a-(2)-(c) Up to a total of 255 76-Seat Aircraft plus 70-Seat Aircraft (“76/70- Seat Aircraft”), of which up to 130 may be 76-Seat Aircraft, and then, on or after January 1, 2016, up to 153 76-Seat Aircraft.

The UAX fleet plan for 1/1/16 includes,

Q400...........20
CRJ700......115
EMB170.......38
TTL70... ..173
EMB175.......82
TTL70/76.255

So the company can add 20 EMB175s by parking the Q400s and another 51 175s if they park an equal # of CRJ700s or EMB170s.

Ask the Freedum guys how that worked out for them....
All UAL has to do is simply hire 200 Mesa pilots in a month.... Problem contract solved.
