Quote: Can anyone explain how VDA works? Thx
You volunteer for VDA by putting yourself on for the day (or several days) in Flica and you can see the list of guys in seat and base/city who also put themselves on. If you are needed, CS will start calling from the top seniority guy based on days available. If the senior guy doesn’t answer, they keep going down the list. You are usually their last resort for whatever they want you to do, so if you answer, you are required to take what they give you, whatever it is. What they assign, pays double time.

What happens if you're on the bottom of the list, they call, but you don't answer the phone?

Then you go about your day as if nothing happened

you can always get out of a vda assignment. Time to get to the airport, just popped a drink etc. don’t abuse it of course but it’s easy to get out of

Yea that’s a broken system if all they are taking into consideration, every time, is seniority.

They also look at how many days VDA availability you have and any conflicts it might create with your schedule. They can bypass calling someone if the trip would create a conflict with a future pairing. They also bypass guys if it would take them too long to get to the airport since there is no required callout time for a VDA.

But if it’s the same folks every time getting the calls for premium; that’s garbage.

That is the problem with our current VDA system. Top 4-5 pilots in every base /fleet/seat get called over and over again..
