EASA Rating to FAA Rating

Subscribe
Hi everybody,

I have been looking around quite a bit for info about this but quite difficult getting a straight answer.

I currently hold a EASA MPL License with a 737-type rating and I am looking to convert this to an FAA ATP with the rating valid as well. As far as I understand I can get an FAA PPL based on my foreign license but how easy is it to convert the type rating?

I have a little bit more than 3000 hours on the 737 and I am really interested in pursuing a career over in the states since I have the right to live and work there.

Do any of you have any inputs for me, I would greatly appreciate that.

If you hold the type on the ICAO license you can do an "upgrade course" to add it to your FAA license. Here's an example, they list the upgrade and foreign conversion together. The FAA gives very little credit for holding the type on an ICAO license, unlike the opposite situation of going FAA -> EASA.

I'm almost certain you will have to do a ATP-CTP course also.
