Yes, currently my travel from my designated airport to base and company-provided hotels in base at both ends of the trip are taxable events. They are nice benefits but not without cost.

Switching State residency can be a pain, but it's not that tough to do (California taxation policies excepted)

If I had a rationale reason to change my residency to Texas w/no State income tax I would take advantage of that. My State's middle of the road income tax wise, but it's still a decent chunk of change I'd rather keep in my pocket, especially if I was a Nomad roaming the country

move to MEM as your indoc and become a TN resident (unless your state is already tax free)

My understanding for a staging priority Jumpseat is that if you are commuting to a reserve assignment (with no trip assigned), you are not protected if your Jumpseat plan goes awry. Once a trip is assigned to that first reserve period you are then protected.
Time on reserve varies from seat to base to airplane of course...but you will do some.

T.O. Fuller is a lovely old WPA park with shade trees and woods all around. It was the minority state park back when Memphis had "separate but equal" facilities. You have to drive through the hood to get there but don't let that discourage you... it is a wonderful, very secure park. At night you can listen to the tugboats running up the Mississippi. The manager is a full timer at the RV park. The downside is they have a 14 day max stay, or at least they used to. I don't know if they enforce it. And your restaurant choices are on Elvis Presley Boulevard.

Agricenter is great in that it is on the grounds of a huge working research farm, and there are trails that run for many miles. It is in the heart of Germantown/Collierville so lots of places to eat. The best thing is there's an onsite farmer's market. The downside is it has zero shade, zero facilities for kids, and tends to get taken over by road crews/cable laying crews/ farm workers. Nothing wrong with that but they can look a little rough.

Jellystone was built in 2010, and is really nice. The shade trees are growing in. They have wifi available and cable TV. Nice pool that my kids enjoyed a lot. Close to Horn Lake and tons of restaurants. About a 15 minute drive to the Airways training center.

Thanks for the recommendations. We're #20 on the waiting list for Jellystone. Fuller doesn't have sewer, which is tough for a long stay. I don't want to unhook to dump or buy one of those dumping buckets. We might wind up going across the river to Tom Sawyer in AR. It doesn't have a ton of amenities, but it does have full hookups and might have a spot. I've been calling and emailing around. I'm sure something will turn up.

Democrat lot is great for plane watching! (I keed. We got told that was off limits back in the mid 2000s....)

And if you're good with electricity, you can tie into one of the light poles.

Heck, I might as well just park in the training center parking lot during the day. I can run my generator so the kids have electricity while my wife and I go to Indoc 😀. No? Oh well, guess I'll keep looking for a sitter or go alone...
