Hello, all.

Wondering if I might be competitive for an interview at UAL if I put in the application. Could I get some feedback from recent hires or people familiar with who's getting called? Currently Pt. 91/135 on the east coast.

-4 year degree with high GPA
-3 type ratings
-3000 TT (1600 regional FO, 500 TPIC Falcon 900)
-Clean record
-Could get 3-5 internal recs
-Working on a masters

Am I anywhere near being competitive? I've been hearing of some pretty dramatic hiring stories lately.

Thanks.

***edit: meant to post this in the United section. Sorry.

Took me 11000 hrs, 7500 TPIC, clean record, 2 types, Bachelors and Masters degrees with 3.84 GPA and 8 recs (6 internal) and 3 job fairs to get called.....so YMMV

I think your TT may be a little on the low side, but you never know. Send in the app and see what happens.

Been told by an instructor there that the average new hire is around 6,000 hours, Bachelor's degree, volunteer/community involvement, in their late 30's.

Thanks for the replies. Flyguy81, when were you hired? It will take forever to get hours like that at the rate I fly now. QOL is pretty good, though.

Also, I'm not sure what YMMV means.

I figured I was low but I've heard several stories of people with less time than me and no PIC time getting hired. Crazy.

Zoot,
YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary

And your correct the market has gotten much loser for pilots to get hired by a legacy, so someone hired last year may have indeed had much more of a qual then someone hired this year, so indeed YMMV.

You have nothing to lose by applying and asking your inside buds for a rec. Otherwise it's all just speculation!

In january I was told the same thing but 7000 hours. but I personally know one who got on with 4000.

You can always apply but be warned, the sound of crickets gets deafening

I wasn't. Got the invite and never went. Got picked up by SWA first and I'm happy so turned it down.

Average of 5000-7600 hrs at the majors. Some higher, some lower.
DL said 7600 TT and 4100 PIC was typical for 2014-2015.

If your current job will take years and years to get to competitive times you might want to consider other options.

If by dramatic, you mean lower than usual times then yes, people are getting hired. But they're not getting hired simply because of the types of quals you listed. What do you do for the community? Besides flying the plane, what else do you do and I don't mean typical 91/135 duties. What type of leadership functions do you have? List this stuff on the app.
