Is ALPA going to join SWAPA to defeat NAI?

US pilots ask Trump to block Obama admin ruling they say would kill thousands of jobs | Fox News

Just saw this story and I was surprised to see as reported in the story, we (as an industry) are being represented by SWAPA and NetJets Association of Shared Aircraft Pilots -- not ALPA. One could argue that SWA pilots might stand to benefit from NAI since NAI would hypothetically bring more passengers to the US for their domestic operation so I'm glad to see they're taking this on. I just can't figure out why I haven't seen anything from ALPA on this. Considering all the deny NAI and ME3 letters I've written to my congressmen (when requested by ALPA), I can't believe that we have a President who claims to be looking out for US jobs and we're not taking the opportunity to have him put his money where his mouth is.

Is the linked story misreporting or is ALPA going to be absent from this rally?

I'm not worried... NAI will be blocked, I'll bet every dollar in my bank account that Trump will block NAI knowing what he is all about. He clearly is all about US jobs

They aren't going to be there.
They issued this yesterday:

"On Tuesday, January 24th a small group of pilots plan to gather at The White House regarding the former Administration's NAI decision. SWAPA has reached out to several of you asking for support for their picket outside of the White House. ALPA is NOT supporting this action as it will be HARMFUL to our continued work on NAI. President Trump and his team had nothing to do with the NAI decision and they are just starting to reverse several decisions made by President Obama. ALPA continues discussions with the new Administration, and educating them on this issue. It is possible that the new Administration will heed the request from thousands of ALPA pilots made through our call to action and revoke or suspend NAI's permit. SWAPA's protest of the White House will be interpreted as blaming President Trump for a decision he had no part in, and it will cloud ALPA's ongoing work. If you have any questions about NAI, please feel free to contact..."

Sounds pretty lame to me. SWAPA has plainly made it known that this is not about protesting anything the current administration has done. The Fox News story today spun it as airline pilots asking trump to reverse a decision made by he Obama administration. Not sure why ALPA has taken this stance, but it gives me a bad feeling that they aren't standing there today.

Sounds like ALPA has contacts within the trump administration who are listening to them. There is no need to picket if they are listening. Also, ALPA along with the APA filed a lawsuit in federal court asking them to deny NAI. They are already fighting this battle on two fronts. I'm sure that when ALPA and APA feel the time is right, they'll ask to picket the WH. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

Just hope he's in residence when they picket.

From the Gov't Affairs Cmte, at today's C44 meeting: ALPA abstained from the protest (conscious decision) in order to better take time to evaluate the new administration's stance on the issue.

That's obviously paraphrased from memory. Take it for what it's worth.

So ALPA's saying that SWAPA isn't "protesting the right way"? I'm surprised then that they allow me to craft my own letter on Calls to Action campaigns.

Just tell Trump "Obama allowed it" and see how fast it gets overturned!
