Default West Coast-ERJ or CRJ?

Hello all,

Military guy hoping to apply to Skywest early 2018. Curious to know what your thoughts are on ERJ vs CRJ on the west coast?

I know Skywest are getting more ERJ's but will the CRJ still have quicker movement? (specifically looking at domiciles commutable from LAS).

Thank you for your time.

UG

It’s really hard to say. The ERJ fleet is growing by 50% over the next year. I have a feeling ERJ upgrade times are gonna plummet.

Do NOT take CRJ if you want west coast. Recruiters will convince you then you will be stuck commuting to the mid west. ERJ for west coast. End of story.

True statement. During my interview had the assistant chief try and talk me into the CRJ. Held firm and was SFO based a month after IOE. Got my home base three months later. Things are constantly in motion but that wouldn’t have happened for me on the CRJ. Good luck!!!!

It's been hovering a little over 3 years for junior upgrade. I believe you are right- it will drop quite a bit once deliveries start picking up. I wouldn't be surprised if it went down to the 2.5 year range.

50 airplanes in a year. My bet is it drops lower than that.

What makes you think that?? I was planning on upgrading on the CRJ but if that is the case maybe I should wait

It’s just a numbers thing. 50% increase to the ERJ fleet next year. That upgrade should drop considerably.

Just depends where they go....if ORD ERJ pilots actually gets Delta benefits you'll see a lot of CRJ captains transition over.

Yup - once ORD (and possible DEN) get on the DL bandwagon you will see a complete different dynamic.

Having said that. ERJ is still the better option for west coast as a new hire. CA is a total different ballgame .... but shouldn't influence the initial choice.
