Default Choosing a Base For Newbies

Hey all, I start ATP-CTP next month and am coming in blind. Im trying to plan on what base I should bid for since I plan on moving there when I start flying. CRJ. Does Skywest have resources I can use to get an idea of reserve time at different bases? Maybe other stuff I’m not even thinking of considering when choosing a base? I know they post the upgrade times on their site. I want a mild or cool climate. My favs are COS and DEN, but I’m open to whatever bases y’all recommend. Any input on recommended bases would be great! Thanks for the help y’all.

Buddy it all depends on a few things.
1) are you going to move to whatever base you get? QOL will be drastically better if you do.
2) do you want flight time?
3) how quickly do you want to upgrade?

If you choose something like DTW, you will fly.... a lot... and you can upgrade at 1000hrs SIC.
If you choose something like DEN, you may not fly as much, and definitely won’t be able to hold the base when you upgrade (which will take longer).

You really have to tell us what your goals are for a better idea.

Thanks for the input! I’m moving wherever I go, Aiming to upgrade at like 2-2.5 years. Sooner would be great obviously, just trying to weigh the different bases pros and cons since I’ll be there at least a couple years.

DTW seems like the most junior base these days. Some getting ORD as well in ground School but mostly DTW.

I'd take #2's advice and plan on living in DTW if your looking to pump and dump.

Denver is supposed to blow up in size so might not be a bad option if that’s where you want to be.

Denver is/will be our largest “Hub”. That doesn’t mean crewbase.... DEN 172 departures a day .. ORD is 178

If you're looking at the seniority list its about half/half DTW/ORD with previous classes. But i just checked and was kinda stunned to see the entire recent CRJ class get DTW, but not sure how far along they are. I've seen SOME get other bases before IOE.

If you see the seniority for each base on their web, it seems like many pilots may be getting other bases too, right?. I'm thinking DEN, COS, PSP, SFO?
