Dallas-ORD or Dallas-DTW

How difficult is commute from Dallas to Chicago/Detroit, which are junior bases on the CRJ side that I assume can be held with little wait out of training? I am assuming DFW-ORD could be a pain due to AA and their WO carriers having higher priority?

Neither commute is bad. I’ve done them both. United and AA have tons of flights ORD plus Spirit. DTW you have less flights but very doable as well.

agree with saxman, I commuted between both DTW and ORD. I can also throw in ATL too. ATL I used DAL ATL on Delta and Southwest, was not a problem and never had to sit in the jumpseat.

To answer your question, I found it easier to get to ORD on UA and then home on Spirit or AA. Without United, that commute would be difficult.

DTW was difficult sometimes because AA would fill up and you don't receive AA benefits being based in DTW. But it was very doable, there was a Skywest flight DFW DTW once a day.

Right out of training, new hires are still going to DTW. You could get ORD before you finish training as well. The most junior FO in DFW is a July 2018 hire.

You'll likely get DFW before you finish training if you start soon. Growing base is a great time to get in.

How long do you think it would take to hold a line at ORD or DFW (assuming ORD much less) on CRJ?

It's nearly impossible to say as DFW is still adding airplanes through next year. If you get in at the right time (right as a couple planes get delivered) you could hold a line right away.

How about ORD on CRJ?

I did the DFW-ORD commute for awhile. United is your best friend. Spirit was nice as a back up option coming home. During the school year AA is hit or miss. During the summer and holidays AA flights were impossible to get on most of the time. Oversold and lots of AA/Envoy guys listed for the jump.

Big growth for DFW. Bet NH’s get it.. new DVR shows 30 openings for FO’s for January 1st.
