Also he must be so new that he doesn’t know UAL pilots get an incentive for making it an early and this guys does it for free. What a joke

Yep, I’m new. Didn’t know the pay difference; was focused on team play when possible. I guess that’s a joke to you.

Correct and if you tell anyone you do that they probably will find that funny too. Especially if you compare it to a UAL pilot that gets an incentive for making it in earlier.

My guess is when you make it to an ALPA legacy you will get it, or when CS slaps a SAD on you for all your efforts

I just jumpseated yesterday with a United captain who told his folks he could get there in an hour, on reserve even though he had just come off a long trip. They boarded the plane a half hour late. The CA showed up right when he said (and the gate had called ahead to KCM/TSA to let them know he was expected, so expedited), and off we went.

I’m all about policy, but I’m also about team play. If I can get there in less that two hours, I’ll let them know. If not or I’m unsure, I’ll say I need two hours. It’s not all about you.
I understand the sentiment, but honestly how long does it take to board a 200? Or even a 700? By the time you get set up, look over the logbooks, do your flows and brief, 99% of the time they will be boarded and ready to go.

I also did my best to get there quickly, but that never stopped me from getting a quick cup of coffee if it was early, or taking my time getting set up up front.

Wait until you make a "team play" and something happens on your way in. You'll soon be looking for a new team.

I'm sure that someone will bemoan my attitude as poor (Skyvicki121, Melanyit) but I don't care. The reality is SW is a business and wants and needs to make money. Plain and simple. For the most part there really is no "team", you are just a required component in the process. Busting your rear does nothing but help the company.

If you want to do that, fine. Just don't expect anything in return and you'll be happy.

It would be different if there were ever any type of reciprocity.

Maybe I’ll grow jaded. I’m new. I still like to get up after a flight when I can to say goodbye to the folks before I go do my walk around. Perhaps that desire fades over time along with other concepts like team play. But for now, the company and crew support have been nothing but helpful where they could. I realize I’m the strong minority, but I’ll keep on keepin’ on until I see a reason to change.

Naw man just keep a good attitude and you’ll be happy.

But hey heads up, I would make sure to do walk around instead of waiting for all the pax to deboard because if you spot something on the walk around now the CA will had to have waited a while instead of being able to phone MX and write it up.

Yeah, I don’t do that if it’s a preflight. I only do that before a postflight on the way out. And I usually only catch the back half of the plane by the time I finish in the cockpit.
