Charlie Gregoire, vice president for sales and marketing at Redbird Flight Simulations, said his company makes basic (BATD) and advanced aviation training devices (AATD). “You can take most of an instrument proficiency check [but can’t meet the requirement for a landing] in an AATD,” Gregoire said. The AATD is more sophisticated than a BATD, but neither can be used for circle-to-land maneuvers, a circling approach, or unusual attitudes. Neither was intended for training in visual conditions. In an AATD, you can log instrument flight experience for currency, 20 hours toward an instrument rating, up to 50 hours toward a commercial rating, 25 hours for your ATP rating, and 2.5 hours for your private pilot certificate. Just to stir the pot a little, an AATD will often have the same maximum training credits (above) as a Level 6 FTD." So I think you can. I have a picture of the certification on the redbird I logged about 22 hours in during my 141 instrument course for my R-ATP. I have the hours logged separately in my logbook so its not included in my total flight time, which I meet the minimums (975 for skywest) for the R-ATP anyways with. In ATP/CTP we will get more "loggable" simulator hours, as well as training sims also being available to log. I think only those that are able to count for time for ATP are in the level D sim though |

You can arrive 25 hours short because you’ll get that in the company level D sims. RedBirds are not 30 mil lvl Ds |
I’ve always logged Level D time as Total Time.
Then again if you’re 10.9 short why not just work 2-3 days longer and have real airplane time? Instead of trying to use “141” time which may be legal for application for your Instrument rating but isn’t really good for anything else. Goals should never be based on minima. Minimum times, minimum experience, minimum efforts. There is no substitute for experience. |

YES you can you the Level D Sim time towards the 1500hrs... with a caveat..
The time has to be in an approved FAA sim AND it has to be part of a 121/141/142 program. Something like a CTP class at the ATP location will not be loggable as it is a part 61 program, BUT if you do the ATP/CTP course in SLC with OO, those 10hrs plus the 28 for initial will all count toward the 1500 needed. We just had this discussion in INDOC yesterday. |

An ATP CTP course conducted under 142 or 121 is 100% creditable. That’s 10.0 hours you can use towards the aeronautical experience requirements.
Yes, that’s exactly what I said. |

There is no such thing as a part 61 ATP CTP course. Your choices are 135, 121, 141 or 142. |
