ORD is going to shrink significantly as the terminal renovations begin. Dead base

I’m missing something. It’s the case that CRJ upgrades faster than ERJ. If there’s no seat lock, and you keep your seniority, then why not just select ERJ and go to a more desirable base right off the bat (the guy a few pages back wanted BOI). Hang out there, then when you’re ready to upgrade just bite the bullet and switch to a junior base and change airframes (ex: CRJ DTW).

Unless the ERJ just doesn’t build time as fast, I don’t see the benefit of going to the CRJ and spending the whole time at a junior base in order to upgrade.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just have no SA on how this works

EDIT: by junior base, I’m sort of implying that those bases have lower QOL. I’ve lived in ORD, DTW and grew up near LGA in my personal opinion those aren’t great places to live unless you are making good money.

Have to go to the full initial training course to learn the new plane when going ERJ->CRJ.
CRJ->CRJ is something like a week class.

But if you want 2 types and don’t mind being in training for 2.5 months again...

Not just the length of time but also having to learn a new plane and upgrading at the same time. Then getting off IOE and being paired with a 101 hour FO because you’re probably at a junior base.

I understand ERJ FO to CRJ CA is the most challenging training footprint at SkyWest. People are doing it though. It’s a matter of being prepared before arriving to training and being ready to give it your all. Not for the faint of heart I’m sure.
