Attrition

Attrition
A friend of mine left Skywest this month for Delta. He said there were 360 total that left in August. Has the pay raise slowed the attrition? If not, can't see how you guys can keep flying a full schedule. Something has to give.

Losing 6% of your pilot group in one month has to be devastating. How many are they able to bring in the front door monthly? More importantly, how many of those 360 were line check airman and instructors who have to be replaced before the new hires can even qualify?
Seems as this is a more pressing issue than what DEN is like as a base or the difference between getting the ERJ or CRJ.

It’s created a massive gap in QOL between the two seats. FO’s complain about not flying enough and having too many days off (seriously they do, for motivation reasons obviously) and Captains complain because every month is 90 hours of BLOCK, not credit, block time. They’re squeezing every ounce of juice they can out of the left seat. As attrition continues to escalate QOL gets worse.
To make matters worse there’s an argument to make that by upgrading to Captain you’re actually shooting yourself in the foot because these legacy carriers understand your value to their operation. If they hire you, they’re shooting themselves in the foot. It makes a lot more sense to hire someone from the direct competition (Spirit, Frontier). Ironically because of this, Captains are feeling trapped by the system and leaving for their less desired choices.
I’ve recently applied to AA, SWA. I received a call in 2 days after submitting my American application which was yesterday (I’m an absolute idiot for waiting). I’ve been doing everything to get on with UAL or DL. Unfortunately I fly mostly United express followed by Delta connection. Which is not a winning strategy to get hired by said carriers especially if your in the left seat.
It is what it is.

SkyWest stopped flying a full schedule long ago. Not just EAS. Legacy’s have had to pick up flying and small markets have lost flights. Seen it in my Delta and Untied served small market.
October, post bonus, could atrite 400. And yeah, average 121 hours of FOs is historically low. Attrition and training delays.
The high salaries will finally kill the 200 and the “refleeting” to ERJ (CC’s term, not mine) will help right size OO.
