Default Commuting from ABE or AVP

I received a CJO and should have my 1500 hours in another month or two. After training, I plan to live in the Allentown, PA area. How feasible is it to live there and commute from ABE or AVP? Would DTW be my best choice for a base? Thanks

DTW is your best bet if you want to commute from AVP or ABE given that SkyWest operates those flights. Same amount of flights for either airport as well as around the same times.

ORD wouldn't make sense for either since Air Wisconsin and Envoy do the flights between the cities. Its doable but the commute would be a little more difficult.

Either way, you're setting yourself up for a really difficult commute with a lot of sitting around. Your first option will put you at work at least six hours early, if not the night before.

If you can't get hired at an airline based in PHL, then you'll probably be better off commuting out of PHL anyway.

This plus an AA number in your pocket is a no brainer.

Just because Skywest operates them today doesn’t mean they will forever. Not to mention those are both 50 seater routes, which isn’t the best plane to commute on to begin with

Thanks for the input.

The reason I’m looking at Skywest is for the bases. I have family in Seattle and LA and a son moving to Phoenix. I assumed it would be best to pick a regional that has bases there. That’s my assumption, but I’m still just a 135 guy and haven’t learned the ways of the 121 world yet.
As far as flow to a major. I’m 55 years old. I’m hoping to retire as a regional captain then move to the islands an work as a sun tan instructor.

I gotta say Horizon for Seattle base and it moves you to the West Coast. I agree with what you all are saying, but the OP was asking how it would be for SkyWest. And I also understand that routes change for different regionals, but for the last 2 years, ABE AVP to DTW has been SkyWest.

Pick a regional with a base within driving distance of where you live, not one that has bases where you want to visit. If you do 10 years at PSA you get AA employee level retiree travel benefits, which are above Skywest active employee travel benefits.
