Default Ready Reserve

Asking for a friend, how does CS determine who goes on ready reserve in a nutshell? Not sure if seniority, bucket size or some other factors determine it. I do realize this is one of the biggest things guys complain about and I wish I could explain where the logic of determining how many days one sits of it is determined. I’m currently a line holder but did have a month of reserve in DTW a while ago that had plenty of ready.

Thanks for any info!

There is a logic, like any other assignment, but it may not be applied consistently, like any other assignmnet. Sometimes it involves punishing you for not helping them out somehow. I never helped them out unless it was going to get me home sooner, but I was always very, very polite and pleasant about it because they do have enough discretion to hurt you if you get on their blacklist.

Blacklisted may have been something back in the day ~2000 pilot days. But not now at 5180 pilots. They don’t know your from the next person...

Even with the large pilot pool we have now, I still think there’s a button on their screen to put some kind of flag on you if you make trouble for them.

Could be wrong. I try and stay nice with every one I work or fly with.

LOL no... people underestimate how much flying we have..
We have a ton (if not all) bases that are grossly understaffed.

Let me put it this way:
I was talking to a few 9E guys and they have one full crew for every plane in DTW sitting reserve at any given time in for AM RES and two full crews for every plane for the PM RES shift.
At OO, we have 4 reserve lines this month @ DTW.
That's FOUR people (plus a handful that are on or just finishing IOE) on reserve, not actively sitting because they almost always get proffered a trip.
Let's say RES lines + post-IOE guys/gals = 10 people at any given time.
That's 10 people out of 230 FO's assigned to DTW, which means *** 4% reserve coverage***.

When I was sitting res at DTW, I got multiple calls without fail on my off days asking me to come fly because they didn't have anyone available.

So we actually need much more growth to be "properly staffed".
There are a bunch of threads on this topic here.

Meanwhile Dallas sits at 25% reserve coverage with people barely getting called...
