Default DFW, COS, DEN Bases for new hire

Hi everyone,

I am getting closer to my ATP minimums and I was planning to interview soon. Therefore I started to look at base options and wanted to get some input.

I apologize if this has been discussed before.

Married, 24 years old, no kids, wife willing to move anywhere in the country. I am looking for modest career progression with at least some QOL, living in base on the CRJ.

I would appreciate if you could give me some insight regarding reserve time, how long it take to get the base, upgrade time and anything else you may know for the following bases: (I know I will not be able to get those bases right out of training)
  • COS
  • DEN
  • DFW

We have looked at ORD as an option too.

Thank you already for your help

I recommend interviewing ASAP. The wait time for classes are reaching April for CRJ and May for ERJ. It might be longer now actually. I just had a former student of mine interview 300 hours early because of how long its going to take to start class.

There is a thread just below this one talking about DEN and COS bases, take a look at those. As for DFW the most junior FO was hired 11/28/2018. It's around 2 years to upgrade into DFW. You'll get moderately used on reserve as an FO in DFW. Great city though!

If you want to fly ALOT go to ORD.

Reserve is about a month or maybe two less than smaller bases. Other bases will be 5-6 months of reserve.

In your situation I would recommend the more junior and larger CRJ bases - ORD/DTW. Go fly your ass off and upgrade sooner. There was always open time to pick up in ORD when I was based there.

COS has trended very junior for the last few years. You can get it within a month or two of training, if not immediately, and you'll have a line within a month or two there. The most junior COS captains have 2 years, 3 months at SkyWest.

Thank you threeighteen! I have been seriously considering COS as my number one choice because of that. I'm assuming the Qol would be better there than ORD but I would still be able to upgrade fairly quickly.

Default Pilot Guide Updates

Anyone know what day they update seniority on the site? I check it regularly for updates but is there is a specific timeframe I should look?
