Just strictly speaking living situation and just to help others trying to make this decision... currently most Salt Lake (CRJ) trainee set up is a normal hotel room (not a suite). So if you think you can handle sleeping 5 feet from someone for a few months and depending on your financial situation it’s worth the savings probably, but it kind of depends on who they assign you with. You are not guaranteed to be provided a kitchen and no new hire gets per diem, so eating out can get pricey in downtown SLC. Like others said another decision point may come down to what kind of studying do you do, individual studying can get a bit hard or distracting when rooming with others, while group studying might actually be easier. Yes all this sounds less than optimal and I was actually kind of surprised when I got to SLC at the situation, but the training was great as a positive at least. Reading this reminds myself of the same questions I had. Having a room mate was great. We each had separate sleeping rooms. 2 years later we are still good friends and text back and forth. It really isn't a big deal. Skywest is a great company to work at.

I had a similar experience. When I got hired I ended up sharing the normal hotel room with another guy, great guy. It was a bit strange at first but we are still close friends to this day. For the most part while in training you are so focused on studying that its not a huge deal to share a room, at least it wasn’t for me years ago.

Everyone’s situation is different vis a vis how they value their money vs privacy. My attitude is that if you even have to ask, and you have the cash, get your own room. If you have your car, then you’re not even restricted to the company hotel. I stayed at the downtown Sheraton for like $79 a night for the first phase, then did own room at Candlewood. If you don’t have a car, you can rent from Advantage, walking distance from Candlewood, for pretty reasonable rate.

But as I said, everyone has different priorities. I’ve got a wife and couple kids I tried to FaceTime almost every day, I go to bed early and wake up late & I was in and out every weekend. No way would I want to subject anyone else to that, let alone my own desire for privacy. So the couple grand for hotel and car was a non-issue for me; you can always meet up to study and go over stuff without sleeping 5 feet from them.
