I sent the email asking for a new date this past Friday, so a week's advance. They just got back to me yesterday that they can move me to a January orientation. The weather here is crappy I haven't been able to fly all week, tomorrow and Friday are the only good flying days, if I went to Denver the last time I flew would be the 17th, I can't afford to miss that much. My pathway advocate seemed understanding about my reasoning.

She told me I could apply again in 6 months so it's not like I got blacklisted I guess.

You also started this thread Interview in LA?

I'm assuming your screen name is some combination of your name and birth year, so it's not too difficult for them to figure who you are.

Look on the bright side, at least you still have an offer from the airline you actually want to fly for. Keep them happy and you are golden. If they don't bring you to class for some reason, I guess you can always reapply at SkyWest in like April.

Word to the wise in this industry... delete all non-anonymous social media accounts until you're at your career destination airline. I know you millenials will find that utterly incomprehensible but even if YOU are the paragon of internet virtue, all it takes is one of your idiot friends to associate your feed with some sort of stupidity and you just lost a dream job. I know of jobs lost to posts and photos related to drugs, sex, racism, and extreme politics... in all cases I know of the pilot was not that stupid, but his "friends" were.

Also know of jobs lost to trash-talking the company. Big shout out to the guy who did it from a non-anonymous account WHILE IN CRUISE FLIGHT. Being off probation didn't help that dude.

Make sure your anonymous accounts are as anonymous as possible. There are no guarantees of safety but for example your registration email and user ID on APC should not be used ANYWHERE else, and if you post unusual circumstances anyone who is aware of those circumstances now knows who you are forever (and that includes employers).
Bad advice.

Over 60% of US companies have said they will not hire someone who has no social media presence.

I mispoke a bit. I was referring to non-professional accounts. A linked-in account is good, just be judicious about who you "friend" (your college professor sure, the Blutarsky wannabe you delivered pizza with not so much). Same with school alumni groups, etc.

Locking down facebook may not solve the problem... airline employers have asked for access to people's accounts... in that scenario you canm't say no so your career hangs in balance on your "friends". But I have never heard of an airline declining an applicant because he didn't HAVE a social media account. I'm supposing businesses which do that are in different industries.

If you're worried about it, just do linked-in and keep it tight.

It's not for life, just until you get where you want to be.

Just to put it out there, I have zero “non anonymous” social media presence and I was hired by a legacy carrier this year. So it’s not a deal breaker in this industry.

With all the information you put on this site and others, it would be very easy for them to figure out who you are. Then you decided to post this two weeks ago. I'd say they dodged a bullet.
