ATL reserve time / holding a line
Hi all,
Is there a current OO pilot who can give me some intel on the ATL base? I understand it’s all 200 flying and that it’s mostly short legs, but it’s close to where I live currently and it would be nice to stay put for 2-3 years for a family obligation. Im currently flying a 30 year old jet without an APU, so I’m sure I’ll be right at home in the 200. 😄
Specifically...
1) I know ATL is fairly junior, but how long should one expect reserve to be there? I realize it’s always subject to change, but a ballpark idea would be great. I know to check SkyWest’s pilot recruiting page to see base awards and DOH, but it doesn’t really address reserve.
2) Same as above, but for holding a line as a FO out of ATL?

I would also be interested in knowing the latest info on the length of reserve, and also the time necessary to hold a line for an F/O in ATL?
I assume that the junior hard lines are of the 12-day off type, but what kind of trips exist on these junior lines... naps, day lines, 3, 4, or 5 day trips etc.???
Heck, while you are at it, please feel free to give a rough estimate of the same questions for a Captain position in Atlanta. It looks like at least 1 year from DOH to hold the bottom Capt. position in ATL.??
I read the conference call discussion that revealed that OO would be spending $30 million to update the CRJ fleet, so it appears they expect to keep the CRJ aircraft for another 5-7 years to due high passenger demand.
Any insight would be appreciated.

I am based in ATL as a FO. This is just a guess because it changes all the time. FOs are going all over the country out of training but most junior is always DTW to hold a line the fastest. ATL has a bunch of FO's with upgrades in. We have not seen any real growth in Atlanta. The growth has been DTW, DEN, and DFW. I would say most likely 6mo to get a line in Atlanta. Our flying is just 200s. They are not all short. We have 30min to 1 hour 30min legs. Delta doesn't use the 200 for much longer stuff unlike United does. The good part about the flying in Atlanta you get good at it fast taking 4 to 5 leg days. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me. Junior lines are closer to 11 days off. Once you get up in the top 20 percent you can get 13-15. Average daily credit on the CRJ system wide is pretty terrible.
