I don't doubt that most deserved what they got, but you don't get that kind of reputation for "just holding pilots to the standards." There is not a single ERJ APD I would worry about scheduling a check ride with, but I can tell you at least 3 CRJ guys I would call in sick for.

Is he actually going to the training department or just transitioning? They have run a pretty tight ship for the 175 program, can’t believe TT would go over their heads for a guy like that. They have rejected a few known problem guys in the past so hope they don’t change it now.

Think about it this way, the ERJ training department was fully staffed... there is no way the CRJ sim guys that have 0 experience with the ERJ are going to boot out the senior ERJ sim guys that literally wrote the program from square one.
That doesn’t make sense.
Time for TT and his buddies to fly the line again like the rest of us.... for at while at least.

The E-175 is pretty much a Santa Clause program, but you do have to put in the effort that’s required including on IOE. The philosophy is the same on both fleets now. The E-175 was a ball buster when it was a 121 PC ride program. I know those 3 guys and they’re all fine, that’s why they’re there and have been there for a while. They come from a generation where you have to be competent or your life depends on it.

If the snowflakes of today can’t handle those guys, then I would hope they’d call out sick before I’d put my family onboard a SkyWest jet.

“Santa clause program”... or could it be that the training has evolved and gotten better, and no longer has to be a ****ing match between the instructors and students about who knows more.. but watch out everybody. we have top gun here, king of flying metal tubes around. At the end of the day training is about safety, and just like flying out on the line, bad apples have no place in the training department where people are there to learn, get reps, and hone their skills

Yep, you nailed it. It ain’t the old days no more!

The instructor in question is very very unlikely to be in the 175 training department anytime soon. As pointed out, they aren’t throwing out senior, experienced and proven instructors for a new transition guy.

The SkyWest Airlines Training Department has always been stellar from the time of existence. You’re well respected when you find yourself in the right seat of a mainliner. Training has always been about safety and it always will be, Not just checking the boxes to go fly the line.

Over the years training has been dumbed down as the airline had been taking any Sand Bag with some penciled whipped multi engine time. Yup, you know who your are. I get it, it’s what the market was looking for. Not so much now, come December of this year there will be well over 10k well qualified Airline Pilots out on the street.

Are the old days back? Probably? Gone are the days of the millennials with a degree and few hours in RJ heading off to mainline the second they’re in the left seat. Now is the time to master your craft and really learn what this industry is about, You’ll now have plenty of time to do just that and actually learn instead of just checking a box to call yourself and airline pilot.

At the end of the day, I’m confident SkyWest will adequately fix the Overstaffing problem.
