Displacement
Is there any way to know where I am likely to end up when pilots start getting displaced at the end of this year? I couldn’t find anything in the PPM about any assistance in commuting since it will be a forced relocation. So, I assume we will be responsible for our own commutes.

I was a solid line holder in my base now it’s way over staffed. So, that one will shrink considerably. I guess I won’t know where I’ll end up or if I will be senior enough to hold any base. I guess that’s how the furlough process works.

For pilots, it's pretty much a wait and see game.

Most bases are overstaffed now. Will they be overstaffed in six months? That's the magic question that everyone wants the answer to and that no one has. Leadership at the various airlines will make a decision, because they have to, and hope their forecasts are better than their competitors.

Do I stay and wait it out or do I try and get a new job now? It’s a difficult question. If I wait to get displaced to someplace I don’t want to go just to commute to a reserve assignment for reduced pay or if I wait until I get furloughed there’s gonna be so many better qualified pilots than me competing for the same job. If I leave and then things pick up now I gave up all my seniority and I have to start all over or I have to give up the airlines as a career. I’m an old guy to be an FO at a regional. This was definitely not in the game plan.

I'm in a similar position; I'm just enjoying the job while I can. If my number gets called, I'm not going to look for another flying job and will instead just go back to writing software full time (vs. part time / on the side as I do now). Is it not possible for you to return, at least temporarily, to your previous line of work should you find yourself in need of a job?
