Default Termination of employment

Are pilots getting terminated way easier nowadays because of the obvious over-staffing? Would someone with 3 SAD in 2 years, 4 occurrences (3 emer + sad) in the last year and 0 warnings nor past disciplinary actions ne at serious risk of getting fired?

4 SAD’s in 3 years? Seems like a lot.

I don't think they would call you in and terminate you over a few SADs over a few years. From memory they are supposed to provide warnings be it written/verbal before any serious action takes place.
Can't speak to the current climate, but I know some guys had 4-5 SADs in less than a year with zero issues pre-COVID.

They can’t look back and say “hey let’s fire him he had a rough reliability streak.” You would have either gotten fired right then (on probation) or received a letter with exactly what was expected.

SADs are scheduled assignment deviations, like not showing up for work or showing up late, no call or anything. Totally different then sick call or emergency call out.
If your having a problem or home/life issues there’s help and guidance available but you’ll need to reach out for it. Start with a SAPA rep or Chief pilot.

No no.
In the last year 3 Emer + 1 recent SAD (totaling 3 SADs in 2 years). I heard they are terminating 2 pilots per day in one region alone so that's part of the concern.

I haven’t heard anything of the sort.

However, you kinda have to go to work to keep your job. If you can’t make it, call out at least 2 hours in advance, even the night before.

Yeah I haven't heard this either, I suspect if this was happening it would be all over the facebook groups and SAPA forums within minutes with people demanding ALPA representation.

As said above, if you can't make it call out within the time required. I think you should be pretty safe as you are right now.

3 SADs is still a lot. As far as I know you only get a SAD when you don’t show up to work, are extremely late (causing delay), or don’t answer your phone on reserve. Regardless going forward you really need to improve your reliability and show up on time.

But, I don’t think they would let you go without even putting you on probation first. They might put a warning letter in your file but I find it hard to believe the first step is termination unless you did something really bad.
