Default Skywest cadet program restarted?

Hey everyone, just wanted to reach out and see if anyone has some more information from what I saw on another thread on here regarding the cadet program restarting up.

I was accepted in March and was supposed to go to SLC back in April. After COVID started they told us to hold on for a while then will reach back out.

I understand the current climate right now and obviously am not expecting to get anything from it at the time being. But when hiring starts up again (whenever that might be) it would be nice having the “in class seniority” for the sim times/first pick on base assignments if that still exists later on.

I am in the program. Had a class date for ERJ scheduled for August. I haven't heard anything in a few months. I also have not tried to contact the recruiter either. I am guessing everything is just on hold for the foreseeable future.

I figure they will email me to tell me to schedule a new interview and get a new class date or email me to tell me the program is dissolved.

ya that’s the same thing I thought as well. Just wait for them to reach out first. They have much bigger fish to Fry right now.

I am not in your shoes by any means. Just looking at the way the flying is going I wouldn’t plan on any type of class until November at the earliest ( not likely though). The problem is the sim time is going to be backed up for a long time. They have yearly CQ events that have to get done, as well as quite a bit of pilots that weren’t able to get there 3 bounces in. As well as when the payroll protections stop, who knows if furloughs are gonna happen, and if that happens it’s gonna be a year probably before they’ll do any sort of new hire. I will say that in the past (past performance does not guarantee future results). Skywest has done well in market down turns. If I was anew hire waiting in limbo, I would say get a job before the majors furlough, you can always give a 2 weeks notice if things get rolling again.

I think it’s best to be prepared for a long wait before new hire classes start again (year or two). Settle into a new job, go back to school, start a new hobby...something. It’s not healthy to fixate.

There is no confirmation of this anywhere, and the SkyWest website for the cadet program is still closed to applications. Don’t believe anything about this until you hear something official from the source.

An intern made a mistake and was let go.

Source? Because my school sent out an email with the job link, and explained that the program was open for a limited time.

Seems a little weird they would only open the cadet program for 4 days. It might very well have been a mistake and an email sent out to the schools as well was a blunder. Looking at the current pool of pilots, they have a lot right now that are awaiting NH training and a ton more that need to do CQ. So I doubt they would start using hotels for cadets, Especially since CHIP was just talking about preserving cash in the last update, the cadet program costs them money and there is no immediate financial return so I doubt they’re actually opening it back up.
