Composite line ELI5

Can someone explain why a composite line is 'the best of both worlds?' someone was trying to explain it to me but I couldn't understand it. I remember them saying you already break guarantee for that month.

Yes, you break guarantee and you also have the ability to give them (a person, not a software) some input on what days you want to have off.

Like the bekk said, you’ve already broken guarantee.
This means that you get 4:12 for every reserve day you sit AND if you go over 4:12 credit for any day that you get flown, that gets paid on top of guarantee.

Plus with a composite line you are considered a line holder and get the benefits of a line holder for the most part

For true reservists does all credit (i.e. deadhead) go toward breaking guarantee? And if/when you break it essentially they are required to pay the additional 4:12 for the days you were on call and didn't get called?

As a reserve you don't get your min daily guarantee or any duty rigs. As a composite you do. And the min day counts even if you don't get called. Deadheads do count toward breaking guarantee. As does flying, as does 4:12 min day if you are OBR. Also, half of your ready counts towards breaking guarantee. If a base is short on reserves, you have a shot at breaking, but normally CS does was they need to do to make sure you don't break and get that big payday.

Makes sense thanks

As a targeted line holder is there a way to specifically bid for a composite?

No, not specifically

Why would you want to?
