You won't catch me saying a cross word about Republic and those working there. Some great professionals. They have the model contract I hope we use for our next contract.

With Republic having no junior manning, no ready reserve, 200% open time, non base discriminatory travel benefits, union lawyer protection, adequate staffing so they don’t only get 12 days off month after month, and shiny jets. How does Skywest plan to stay competitive hiring pilots in the future?
Does Republic have trip Cancellation pay, or is it like an FO once told me that one reason he left Republic for Skywest was because of not getting paid if the flight cancelled?
What is Republics minimum daily guarantee?
What is Republics Profit Sharing, performance rewards and financial rewards bonus?
401 match?
The ready reserve fiasco may be the straw that breaks the union resistance at Skywest, but for now and as long as I've been in the industry the only time Skywest had a problem attracting job seekers was when our last pay package passed. They just jacked up new hire pay, with the ability to go up another $5 per hour for FOs without giving the captains anything. Wasn't a wave of attrition, but maybe a small number of more expensive captains got a fire lit under their arses and they finally moved on. That actually is what Chip wants, cause he can replace a $130 per hour captain with a $75 captain and save money in the long run.

The lost decade to which I refer was post 9/11. 2002 to about 2014.

SO why does Republic need to offer up 200% open time to entice pilots to pick up the trips?

Don't know. But I do know that unless OO pilots stop picking up trips that pay less than 200% it won't change.
Why should the company pay 200% if the trips get covered for less?
Why would you pick up a trip that pays less than 200% if you think that what you deserve? It's easy to say no to the scheduler who calls begging. They can't force you, and if they try you just say "listen to the sound of a beer opening and being chugged."
New hires, please read this again. They can not force you to fly on an off day. They don't keep a list of pilots who helped out and then give them a get out of jail free card for the future in return. You're just a number.
If there is a type of trip you love (standups?) then they do know pilots that will gladly say yes less than 2 hours out, but even then they won't help you out when you need help. Sorry insufficient reserves.

Yeah that’s COVID upgrade time. After it’s all said and done, I bet it adds 2+ years to everyone who was unable to upgrade prior.
If you’re a NH at SkyWest I’d expect upgrades to go back down. It just depends on the next 6 months.
I had an great discussion with a UAL guy I was sitting next to on a DH (He’s been through it all). Long story short, the airlines are the first to get hit and last to recover. I expect upgrade opportunities will be increasing steadily, but don’t expect it to be like 2017-2019 anytime soon.
Sadly, legacy training departments are proving right now they can’t handle training 1,000+ NH’s a year.
