In the long-standing SkyWest Questions thread, there has been some chatter about CRJ flying at LAX being reduced and the ERJ seems to be picking up steam. Also, while LAX CRJ used to be somewhat junior, no CRJ FOs has been let into LAX in over 8 months, which could confirm the reduction in CRJ flying and downsizing at LAX. This concerns me because I prefer LAX over PSP or FAT. Aside from the chatter in that thread, I am hearing from several SkyWest pilots that the ERJ is really picking up steam at West-coast bases and it has better trips, plentiful flying, etc.

No FOs have been let in LAX for 8 months? The website says most junior CRJ FO was hired 7-27-2021. Not sure how accurate that is though.

Following this thread because I have the same questions, thanks!
Actually, most junior CRJ FO based in LAX on seniority list was hired 7/8/2019, I just checked it. I'm an LAX based ERJ Captain. Please PM me with questions or if you need more info on anything. Seems like there is alot of confusion out there.

If you want LAX the ERJ is 100% the way to go. CRJ in LA is slowly dying. I'd be surprised if it is still around in a year or two.

However i'm still holding out for hope that things will change by the end of training to open up a couple spots. Does anyone know how much the monthly attrition is at skywest for the CRJ or total? And if someone knows how long reserve is currently that'll be appreciated.

Thanks!
Just checked the seniority list and it seems like last couple classes of new hires on the CRJ went to Detroit, Chicago or Minneapolis. On the ERJ a bunch went to Chicago, some to Denver, several to LAX, SFO, IAH and BOI. Not sure the attrition level but in October we lost 84 Captains and 62 FOs but we are still up 119 pilots from the last month due to new hires. As far as reserves I'm not sure what it is now, every base is different and every airplane is different. A buddy of mine who is new on the CRJ in LAX (2019 hire date but finished training 2020 due to covid) got a line the last couple months. Right now things are moving fast! That's actually an understatement, it's a great time to get hired and move up the seniority list. We are hiring a ton, according to the seniority list there are over 300 FOs I'm ready between both aircraft. I'm happy to help answer anymore questions, just PM me. For what it's worth if you are heart set on a west coast base I'd go for the ERJ.

Thanks sounds like a lot of movement. Also my class starts next week so I'll probably just stick with the CRJ rather than delay my date for the ERJ. I'll move if I have to since i've done it before for another flying job. I'm expecting seniority will be quite important.

Thanks

No problem. You will like the CRJ, it's a fun plane, I was on it for 4 years. The CRJ 200 is a pain in the Winter and Hot I'm the summer but if you get Dallas or Phoenix based it's pretty much only 700 flying. After your seat lock you can always transition to the ERJ if you want. Seniority is everything at the airlines.

Quite a few folks on here reached out to me and offered some great advice. I really appreciate all of the help, both in terms of what's been posted in this thread and the PMs as well. It's great that so many people are reaching out to help the next wave entering the ranks. I will do my best to help others as I move forward too. In the meantime, I've chosen the ERJ and could not be more excited about the future!

While there are obviously many factors to it, generally, yes, the upgrade is slower on the ERJ.

That may very well change in the coming years as OO transitions to more and more of them.

as of last bid its the same 2 year. For January bids, The CRJ will drop to under 1 year.. ERJ will hover back to over 3 years.
