CTP and ERJ training questions, March 2022
I start my CTP in Dallas, then my ERJ training in Denver in about 6 weeks and I'm curious about the logistics of the training course:
- If I fly to the site, will I be sorry that I don't have a car during training? I heard the hotel will transport you to the site, but will I be stuck with Uber Eats the whole time?
- How long is ERJ training?
- Will Skywest provide me with an appropriate aviation headset?
- Any tips on what to pack? Business-casual, I presume?
Is anyone else here going to be in my class? Thanks!

I rented a car for while I was there. Hotel provides breakfast (same powdered eggs every day). You are on your own for lunch and dinner. Hotel has kitchen in room with stove microwave and fridge. Some people amazon prime groceries. Some of us shared rides in the rental car to the grocery store. I got a pretty good deal on a junk rental car from fox so I think I broke about even with money spent on car vs eating out/uber eats. There are some restaurants within walking distance, but value wise it was better to have groceries and cook in the room.
My wife and kids visited on the weekend in the middle of systems. So I was going to need a car anyways and enjoyed the weekend with them in Denver. No time to really do anything with the rental car during the week with the amount of studying required.
my footprint-
ctp - 7 days
indoc- 5-6 days over two weeks. mine was virtual. I heard its now in person in slc.
systems/dts/matrix- 2 weeks
procedures- 1 week
sims- 2 or 3 weeks. Most people getting extra sessions so footprint gets extended.
You bid for procedues and sim schedule and location while in systems. My class went to SLC, STL, DEN, and a few went to Paris for a few sessions. Rumor was that the class behind us is mostly in Paris.
then we are waiting 2 weeks mininum for IOE.
Bring your own headset. I changed the cord on my A20s to 5 pin xlr. No batteries needed now for ERJ. Most of us have noise cancelling headsets (A20s, proflights, Lightspeeds, DC) You are a professional pilot now- and everyone typically brings their own headset- you won't need it until sims though. ERJ has dual GA plugs or 5 pin XLR.
Business casual is good to pack. No jeans for while in training. Hotel has a gym. So I brought regular casual clothes too. You can check the luggage or carryon.
Good luck. I am not sure how many we lost since indoc, but my guess is around 20‐25% have left for one reason or another.

Not sure what is normal.amount. Training is not easy by any measure. Some people left after indoc (don't know if they failed the test or not). Systems test was also definitely not easy. Manuevers also is tough especially when its your first type rating and you have never flown anything bigger or more complex than a seminole. Training department helps you to succeed, but its definitely not something you can be less than 100% comitted to.

Adding to this, bring mostly business casual but also have a few regular clothes because you will have off days where you may want to go out to est with your classmates or other fun stuff. As for the car, it's definitely not needed. Between the shuttle and uber, you're fine. Most things are within walking distance and you likely wont have too much free time to need a car to go places anyway.
