I don't think SKYW is too worried about new hires jumping ship. From what I can tell, the other regionals have just as long of wait times for IOE because they are having the same problems with attrition and LCAs moving on and the new ones cant get brought online because of the delays with the FAA. I don't think its possible for new hires to leave now and go to another carrier and hit the line before they would if they stayed at Skywest. The problems plaguing skywest right now are happening at every single regional.

While I mostly agree with you, Envoy is still getting new hires into the Jet within 10 days post LOE. Pretty impressive. Maybe more LCA hanging out waiting to flow?

Ehh, I mean that may be true for certain carriers depending on their training timeline. However, I know of a few new hires from a recent class who’ve received CJOs at other carriers and have jumped ship or are planning to here soon. I’m sure they’re not an outlier.

If SkyWest isn’t worried about that now, it may catch up with them on the backend of things. Clearly, they’re not worried about it at all with this FO IOE freeze they’ve established right before my class was next in line for IOE of course haha. Prior to this month, they had some sort of idea or timeline when we could expect IOE based on their lists. Now, they can’t provide a timeline at all and are very vague with communication. I’ve heard from numerous sources that they may start up again either next month or in another 3 months. Regardless how accurate any of that information is, I’d bet it’s the latter if not further out than that.

My other thought is that SGU has now realized that due to covid, they are soon going to run into an almost year period where FOs wont have the 1000 hours to upgrade. So they know they are going to have to become a smaller airline here at some point until that wave ends. Could be their way of not furloughing, but not advancing the new hires and maybe eventually most of them will leave. Still gives them the option of ramping up training again and get those pilots moving if something changes or they need to put more FOs in seats.

In that case, I’ll remain on the payroll indefinitely lol

I think they are being more proactive on the front end. A friend who recently went through said they had an orientation followed by a delay before indoc. That said it’s still faster than skywest on the crj right now. I’m not sure it would save you any time if your already through indoc at skywest to switch.

So that’s what the right seat of a CRJ looks like! I’ve forgotten…

Envoy’s delay is in the front end of the training footprint. They put you through orientation then you go home. Most carriers have you got home after you pass the LOE
