I guess I could put this on any regional's list but Skywest's is probably the best place.

I'm betting that the Skywest pilots are not going to push for the ability to add and drop trips without the ability of a $15 per hour 19 year old person in the scheduling department being able to say no. Regional pilots do not understand the value of the freedom they would gain by being able to drop low time pairings and pick up higher time pairings. Or of being able to drop trips and put other trips back to back. Or of being able to drop trips to go to your friend's funeral.

Hopefully others will be able to post better examples than I have here but I wanted to start the list.

There are some people that need to be removed from our CS management before any real QOL changes come down the pike. Additionally, SAPA is most likely not going to secure anything impressive when --or maybe even IF-- a new contract comes up for a vote. Changes to QOL are minuscule, we may see a large percentage increase in pay scale, but even on the high side (I've heard 30%), our Captains will still make less than 3rd year FOs at a ULCC. There has been more than enough time to come up with a contract for a problem they knew about since at least December (and that's being generous), and yet we haven't seen anything more than a survey. It seems to me that the leadership here sees a turndown in the economy that will sort of just work things out.

Let's not neglect the fact that other carriers are doing the same thing... plenty of places need a refresh to remove **** poor policies (Alaska especially comes to mind), but there's no rush to get anything done. I think they know something many of us don't.

The economy will "fix the glitch"

While I understand the need to be able to drop trips, and yes I would love the ability to do that, I don't see how this works in getting all of the flights covered. Almost every single pilot would be dropping stuff. And as it is we dont even have enough reserves to cover the extra flying that's in open time right now. So how would this flying get covered if they just let us drop willy nilly? Don't get me wrong, I want to have this ability, but I dont see how operationally it would work. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

Well, I mean, let's not ignore that thousands have recently spoken...with their feet.

I am not expecting anything- and that way I won't be disapointed. I am pretty new, but given the tone and statements in the weekly emails of "they will just make the airline smaller and lease airframes" and "we already have a contract and rates on par or better than other regionals" I am all but certain it will be nothing or close to it.

We are litterally sending something like 6 line pilots to negociate a contract with a multi-billion dollar organization that has dozens of professional accountants and lawyers that have the sole job of saving corporate as much money as possible.

No contract. No union. No negotiation.
Those 6 pilots simply have to pass the word on from management about how the company wants their pilots to work going forward.
It’s that simple.

This is spot on. I keep hearing the word contract and the word negotiation.

It's not at all like this. It's how domino said.

So only the small percent of America in a Union have an EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT?
Fun word game.

Sure, a very small percentage of Americans belong to a union. However, SkyWest is an outlier in an industry that has shown time and again the benefit and NEED for union representation with a true employment contract. Instead, you get a shell "association", funded by the very company they "negotiate" with, in order to write a policy manual that the company has free reign to follow or not.
