AA has been on the verge for other reasons for some time. I highly doubt OO will sink but if the hiring continues for another 2-3 years with no economic induced slowdown they will encounter some major operational “shrinkage”

Actually, OO will shrink LESS if they either are successful at getting their eligible but unwilling FOs to EITHER upgrade or go elsewhere. They simply don’t have the CAs to waste sitting in the left seat of FOs who are unwilling or unable to upgrade. They need to grow more CAs organically, DECs are so few and far between any more that they probably qualify as an endangered species. You simply NEED to have more CAs than FOs. Even if you need to eliminate FOs to do that.

SAPA forums report that management says it’s actually about 700 eligible FOs. Wouldn’t doubt that they end up with about 400 with how many will dip to a major/quit/fail upgrade before the end of the year

Hello, I am joining OO soon as F/O E170 having 7,5K foreign hours, almost all acquired in airlines, 3K+ jet PIC.
I know that all of these costs nothing to 121 experience and I will have to log 1000 hours here as a F/O before upgrading like any other guy for whom it is a first airline in his life.
I have only one question for those who may know. On SkyWestOnline “Flight Hours” section there was an option to file either Part-91/135/121 experience or Foreign Flag Carrier. Does it mean that these hours could be counted for necessary 1000 for further upgrade?
Regards

Like I said, it isn’t personal and it isn’t punitive. It’s just math.

Well I agree that’s not sustainable.
