Pilot luggage

I have a ATP-CTP start in January.

I am curious about luggage size lol. I’m planning on flying the CRJ to get DTW as a base but I heard the CRJ doesn’t have much space.

I am wondering about brands, sizes, what pilots bring on a trip? I’ve seen YouTube videos, but I’m looking for recommendations from people doing this currently. So I can possibly ask for some of it for Christmas or something possibly.

I’ve seen luggageworks and curious about size, I’m sure the 22 inch? What about coolers? I have flight bag by brightline as I like the ability to modify it over time.

I would love opinions. Thanks!

22 inch luggage works will fit. I’ve down 4-5 day trips in my overnight stuffed in the CRJ 200 overhead bin before. Takes some persuasion but will work. Side pockets are fine to get just don’t expect to having much in them for the 22 inch to fit. As far as coolers, I have the electronic/cooler combo and it fits the bill as well. I can pack 4-5 “lunches” and still have room for EFB, headset and other misc things. You’ll learn what needs to be there and what doesn’t once you start. Good luck January!

The round ones don’t fit

For a food cooler and electronic flight bag, I have the Aerocoast Pro EFB + Cooler Combo. It's worked well for me, keeps my food cold and keeps me from having 3 bags. Space for a headset on top and the company issued iPad on the side. Fits perfect next to the seat in the ERJ.

Thanks!!

I have a problem with packing too much into my flight bag as a "just in case" lol
I will probably want to get that down to the essentials to save on everything I have to carry around.
I am sure I will learn about what I need and don't need fast enough by watching captains and what they take with them.

i fly the CRJ. or really what I do is sit reserve and don't fly the CRJ. i use the 22"aurora bag. everyone else has the stealth series. heard the metal frame bag bends and the plastic is lighter and doesnt get bent out of shape. couldnt handle spending that much on luggage though. so far the aurora is working fine.

i use the luggage works electronic / cooler combo cube, that thing is legit.

The round luggageworks seems to anger people at first sight.

You spoke exactly to what I have used for years- and continues to work on the 73.

-Luggageworks 22” works on all regional jets. Empty your side pockets for the 200.
-Stealth cooler is great. Some food. Some snacks. And enough beer for those late arrivals to the hotel.
-Brightline is boss.

Watch Black Friday deals. I bought my cooler at a decent discount. But I’m not sure how well stocked sellers are… it’s a different world now
Some guys/ladies mange with two bags, I bring running/work out gear and pack lunches. That’s an automatic three. Which is fine.

Most important- buy and pack a black windbreaker type jacket. Stow side pocket on the 22”. On commutes/deadheads lose the tie and pull on the jacket so you’re instantly incognito.
And Bose QCs. Sitting in back with those on shuts the door to endless pax conversations. Usually. Not always!
You’ll deadhead more then you think. And when you do, get on first so your bags stay with you.
Got off topic. Good luck! I really enjoyed Atp/ctp. The only sims in your career that don’t threaten it.
PS- I’m a coffee drinker but have come to enjoy green tea in the cockpit. Wifey says it’s better for me. Perhaps you too.

I have heard people say online that many people can pick you out as a pilot just because of the LuggageWorks bag haha
I like the insights of your extra info tho!! thanks!

Does anyone have any experiences with Briggs & Riley bags? I know they are expensive but price is the only thing I have heard that is bad about them, it seems like once someone gets over the price they love the bag and the free fixing if anything happens to it.

The main usability difference seems to be the "tri fold garment folder" which would keep shirts and pants nicer maybe?
On a 3-4 day drip, how many backups to your uniform do you bring?
