Could anyone share details as to which CRJ model a newhire is expected to learn? I assume the -200, but since the 700 and 900 are in the fleet, they could expect you to know that AC and use differences training for the 200.

Try posting your question in the SkyWest forum and you will likely get more responses. I once upon a time flew all three CRJ models for another company and they had us learn the 200 model. SkyWest may do it differently. Either way, it's not a problem until you get your foot in the door at which point they will tell you what to study.

All initial training is based on the 200. The ground school is all 200 specific, and your PV, MV, KV, and LOE will all be in the 200 training devices/sims. After you take your LOE, you will be scheduled for differences training, which is one day of classroom, and one session in the 700 sim. Your IOE could be in any model, and then you'll do OOE in the other model(s) based on company need. Most everyone gets checked out in the 200 and 700. There is no checkout for the 550, as it's just a 700 with some annoying differences. Depending on where you're based, you may never see a 900. We don't have a lot of them, and they are only based in Delta specific bases.

My interest is related to teaching/mentoring future airline pilots. Some of the CFI’s I mentor may fly for OO in the future. If I’m going to educate about “real airplanes” then it would be helpful to give system advice on a type and model they would most likely train on. The CRJ series and the E-170/175 are the most likely jets today’s nh’s are likely to go to for their first jet. I intend to be non specific (re: company training); my research finds good intel on the CRJ -200, -700, -900, nothing yet on the E jets. I felt I could pass along basic system knowledge on something more relevant than the 1980’s designed type I retired of off. I don't have any knowledge of any current regional's training nor would I attempt to prep anyone with more than an understanding on how and why a high performance jet works and possibly the rationale of alert systems and ECAM type messaging.
