Skywest Attrition

What's the attrition lately or what's it look like for the upcoming months? I know it's slow just wondering if there is any movement at all. What would it take to get a class going or even some interviews? Just grasping for something positive to keep my hopes up.

Bascuela 08-02-2008 09:51 PM

5-10 on the master list per month is my take.

IFly17 08-03-2008 06:19 AM

Not enough to get me close enough to even hope I can hold a line.

Salukipilot4590 08-03-2008 06:39 AM

Do you guys think they will start hiring within the next 6 months?

JetJock16 08-03-2008 06:40 AM

I've only moved up 438 spots in 29 months. That's an average of only 15 per month and I'm sure there were a few months that spiked around 20-25 over that last 2 years but no higher. Even if you add in the FO's behind me I can't imagine it being more than 18 per month on average. A good friend of mine was hired in Nov., to date only has 182 pilots behind him and has only moved up 139 spots, that’s only an attrition rate of 17.3 per month and he's well over 1000 pilots behind me.

In the last 4 months alone I’ve only moved up 22 spots. That’s an average of around 5.25 at my seniority level. I’m sure that, if you add those behind me that are leaving, our current attrition rate is around 5-10 per month.

Hard to say but my guess is that we will be randomly interviewing but no RJ classes until late next spring with a few EMB New Hire classes here and there.

multipilot 08-03-2008 07:22 AM

I was hired in June for the Brasilia, but no word of any classes yet.

flybywire44 08-03-2008 07:42 AM

ASA lost 17 last month...

Utah 08-03-2008 10:06 AM

SkyWest is offering LOA of up to a year. I doubt they'd be doing that without planning on not needing additional pilots.

Yeah to be honest since my parents live in LA I would actually rather fly the Bro and be home based to cover some of my college loan costs. For now though I'll try to instruct back home and get some more time...finish the ATP written and get the II and MEI under my belt. I'm not looking to join an airline anytime before 6 months from now to be honest....too much in my life that I need to work out right now. Thanks though man! I'll keep my head up and keep applying! :)

I wouldn't expect too many for a while...no mandatory retirements for a few years, and few pilot jobs are currently available. Basically you're looking at medicals and career changers, plus a few fractional or corporate opportunities.

So almost a decade later, what is attrition now?

As she said. It's pretty pathetic considering we have 4000 pilots. Not a place to be if you want to move on.

Maybe you should quit and go start over at XJT. They have high attrition so you'd like it there.

They are moving at a rate of about 10 times us. Sucks to be non Union for sure.

Really, so they've been losing 600 a month?:rolleyes::confused::eek::

Squallrider 07-04-2016 05:14 AM

Don't feed the troll.
We hired 90 odd last month and lost 39 to attrition. Growth and attrition = win. Upgrade is 2 and 1/2 years and not into just DTW either. Most junior ca into DTW and most junior ca into Msp same date of hire.

LOL!! SkyWest has 4k pilots and the upgrade is still faster then XJT... And attrition is more like 40 a month... The key is both growth and attrition.. SkyWest has Both. This is just the tip of the growrh iceberg over then next year at SkyWest

You're welcome. As Chip Lorenzo gives xjt no growth, gives you xjt's -200s, bases and geography, you get win-win-win. It's nice to be part of the family.

What they usually do. It's all legal under the TPA which amended the fragmentation language in cba07. We're at the mercy of SKYW,incs compassion, regardless of the fact that our ml partners appreciate us.

I was the most optimistic in the company about our future until a few months ago, but now it appears skw is transitioning our operation away. Fortunately there are a lot of other places to go if it becomes necessary.

Pretty sure most of your loss of dying went to TSA, the 200 flying we've been getting is on the delta side. Plus it's hard to assign flying a company that's bleeding pilots. They will have to do something, it's no secret that 50 seater flying for United is going away.

Nine of the -200s were UAL and the rest were DAL. it's hard to stop attrition and attract pilots when you're not allowed to grow.

how do you think management keeps pilot interest into a non union house, F+++ everyone else they own, as skywest is doing.

Apokleros 07-04-2016 09:20 AM

Rather intriguing read, is this thread. People not being able to get an interview back in the day; nowadays just send an application and await a call bearing good news within a week.

That's why i bumped it. And was curious about current attrition. Things change so fast. I applied at OO on a Monday afternoon. Got a call at noon EST on Tuesday. Interview 12 days later. Things move quickly. Almost too quickly. I would like to interview at other places but time is crunched.

ALPA already rolled over and droped the meeger clause...
