Jumpseating on SkyWest (United) flight

I'm trying to fly from DEN to grand junction (GJT) in about a week and was wondering if anybody knows how to list on United. I did it a couple of years ago and If I remember there is a number to list, but I ran into some issues since the flight was operated by SkyWest.

I would just show up at the gate but I have to check a bag. Last time checking the bag turned into a major hassle. If anybody knows how to list for and check a bag on a United SkyWest flight let me know.

Also anyone know if the DEN to GJT flight is usually full this time of year?

Just go to the counter and just give them your CREW ID, and that you would like to list yourself for the flight, they don't have any problem with that.

You probably aren't going to like this answer, but here it goes. The fact that it is a SkyWest flight is not the issue. The issue here is solely on United. At this point in time, United has no way of listing ahead of time for the jumpseat. You'll just need to show up at the ticket counter and request to fill out the paper jumpseat form for the particular flight. At that point the ticket counter will "list" you for the flight. As for a checked bag, I dont know what to tell you. My hope is that the ticket counter would be used to this sort of thing and know exactly how to handle it.

As for your other question. If you have a mobile device capable of running the United app, you can look up any flight, its stand-by list, and available seats to see exactly where you stand within the app and without having to have an account. Hope this information will help you.

I commuted in and out of DEN and would sometimes take OO flights operated for United. I had no ability list ahead of time at that job, so I just went to the gate. They always helped me out once I explained that I could not list ahead of time. However, I never checked bags.

If you go to the gate note that the agents are usually a single person working each flight and they don't show up until a bit closer to departure time than a mainline flight.

Not even skywest pilots can list for jumpseat ahead of time for their own flights. There's no way to do that on the united system although I think mainline pilots can. We have to just go up to the gate for any United or United express flight and ask.

As far as checking a bag when jumpseating I've never tried it myself but I've asked other people about it and everyone has told me it's not a big deal. Go up to the ticket agent with your badge and tell them what flight you're going to be jumpseating on and they should let you check the bag. Whether or not they try to make you pay may depend on the agent.

Will they pull the bag if you don't get on the plane?

Checking a bag is easy. It's treated just like any other non-rev bag. Just go to the ticket counter and ask to list for the Jumpseat. They'll tag your bag to abd check it. Then go to the gate and check in again. You may or may not have to fill out a form. Sometimes they put a standby tag on checked bags and sometimes they don't. I would plan on your bag going if you don't get on. If you don't get on just wait for the next flight.
