I have no dog in this fight, just a lurker reading the thread, but it's been my experience in both the Military and Civilian Airline flying that the type of pilots who are attracted to Management jobs, (desk jobs) are usually always weak sisters who gravitate towards jobs/positions that offer the least exposure to demanding flying. It's a survival instinct that many of them possess because they realize how weak they are. Not always true, but very common.
