I'm in the cadet program. First interview was just a get to know you, face to face, drug test, fingerprints, and cadet id badge. No flight benefits. Second interview is the standard interview with hr, and technical.

Why be a cadet if they take any applicant showing a reasonable effort?

That is a good reason.

Does the cadet program include brainwashing to make you think you're mainline?

The only reason there are comments like these is because other pilots have a problem that SkyWest pilots actually like the company they work for.

Yes. Complete mind-wipe and distribution of Mesa hate literature.

I believe the Mesa hate literature 100% based upon the pilot interactions between Skywest and Mesa in St. Luis when we both were using the sims there.

Are we talking about 1 or 2 guys or a large group. If it's the latter I would be surprised. If that's the case I apologize for them. Nobody benefits from tool bags.

Cadets get to go first in seniority in the class (behind transitions, intra-company transfers, and behind pilots switching over from expressjet).

Other than that, these cadet programs have a perceived value for CFIs that want to go to the regionals.
