None. It's up to the company how they assign seniority within a class. Non-pilot employees who get hired as pilots always had first seniority, and that includes lateral transfers from XJT. I think previous employees also have single occupancy.

Essentially they're treating them like the folks who transfer into the pilot ranks from other non-pilot employment positions. Nothing really new.

Those guys getting the bonus or paid training or whatever are starting at zero seniority too, is that what you want?

Not true. They accumulate company seniority ( sick bank, vacation,401k, traval benefits, and health benefits all while being a CFI. The only seniority they are not building until Indoc is pilot seniority.

Union, CBA, no CBA, it doesn't matter. The airlines do what they want, not what they should. The guys thumping their chest over having CBA are getting screwed harder than SKW pilots are.

I'd much rather have the company give a guy some flight benefits, a top of class seniority number, a 'real' interview gouge, slap him on the rear and see him at 1500...

...or have my union carrier skirting the super awesome CBA by giving bonuses and paying for tuition. Actual cash money.
It does. The TSA union filed a grievance against the bonus since it was distributed once they were on property. They stopped offering it.

It isn't the union's job to recruit. We can't tell them how to spend their money. But once a pilot is on property, they have to follow the rules.

As long as they don't distribute the payments while they are on property, there isn't anything we can do about. Nor should I care. If the company wants to start investing in a flight school and pay them as flight instructors, they aren't on the seniority list and they aren't employees of the airline. The only way to fix that issue is stricter regulations but that hurts everyone.

Bonus, tuition, build a flight school, paying parents to conceive a pilot, exc..
The reality is, these "games" discourage far more than they attract. If a company wants to throw volumes of money at prospective newhires, unless its a violation of the CBA, it will happen.
The industry continues to do business the same old way and it still doesn't work. There is an advertiser on this site who claims a 5+ million dollar career over a 35 year career, proof that the paradigm is truly shifting. When a company uses that metric, it wont be long till every potential newhire uses the same calculator, and the paradigm will have fully shifted all the way.
