average pay,bonus, days off for years 1-3
 

hello all,

I've read through lots of threads here, just hoping to get a decent idea of what a new guy could expect to gross his first few years, what his 401k bonus (or otherwise) would be, average tfp per month without picking up extra, time on reserve, etc.

I appreciate there are tons of variables that would affect all this. So to make it as easy as possible, let's say west coast guy looking to commute to OAK, LAS or PHS (or DEN?), wanting to do 3 days as much as possible, depending on commutability.

I know it's a WAG, but I appreciate an approximations you can give, especially if you're a guy on property less than 4 years.

Little over a year and a half in. Last year was mostly on the old contract and 1st yr pay. I took in a little under $90k. Worked an avg of 115 tfp/mo and had around $8500 put in the 401K and got $11500 in profit sharing.

So far this year I'm around $75k ytd. Doing a 125 avg. If I keep it up for the 2nd half of the year I'll gross around $150k for year 2. $19800 will be put in my 401k and if the numbers are same as last year then profit sharing would be around the $20k mark.

I live in base and pick up a trip or two a month. So those figures are not close to accurate for someone just flying their line. Most trips are 3 days and you'll have commutability on at least one end. Rare to find trips commutable on both ends due to the AM/PM structure we have. RSV guys are probably avg 110-120 tfp/mo without picking anything up. Normal lines are in the 85-105 range.

thx flyguy. sounds like you pick up extra. is the profit sharing deposited into the 401k, or can you take the money?

so, if a new guy did reserve for a year, then held a line for year 2, you think 110 tfp is average without picking up extra?

Pretty close depending on the base. My line next month is 119 and we haven't even started July yet. I'm also about 1.5 years. I drive 1.5 to work, so I don't pick up much but have done a couple of premium trips. Flyguy81 has better numbers but just flying my trips (high time flyer) I'm at $70k to date. I got $10K profit sharing.

Keep in mind, in September Newhire pay goes from $67.32 to $69.34, 2nd year goes to $100.26, and year 3 pay goes to $111.63.

What about block time?

Block time depends. If you are on reserve, you will probably get saddled with a lot of deadheads and block about 60-70/mo, maybe less.
Line holder - again it depends, but most average 75-80/mo.

I have had low months less than 20, high around 90, so obviously it varies quite a bit.

what is the max you can make as an F/O?

An annual credit of 1800+ TFP would be getting into the upper percentile(s) of the pilot group. In domicile, actively working your sked, working/flying a bunch.

Take that times the correlating pay rate, add $8k annual per diem.

Add 13.4% to the sum above for B Fund.

+ Profit sharing assumption?

That ought to get you pretty close. There's going to be outliers at both ends of that spectrum though....i.e. there's going to be folks that do even better than that...and its easier for them due to domicile, or ability to work their schedule, etc....but that'd be a annual ballpark figure to get started with.

Junior: working really hard for that

Senior: still hustling but easier due to vacation work rules, ability to be awarded uncovered open time flying at premium, and the value of monthly normally awarded flying.

How much do you really want to work? 12 yr FO pay is $152.78 until Sept. If you flew your line you'd make around $175k. If you busted your butt you could make $250k+

I've heard of guys making over $300k.....I'd rather make sure my kids aren't calling someone else "daddy".

There's FOs that are senior, live in base, and have the flexibility to pick up premium on short notice and/or weekends. Many of them are making north of 300K on just gross pay alone.
