Jumpseat Forms
 

Hello,

First off, thank you for letting me Jumpseat this weekend, always treated wonderfully by you guys. I’ve been jumpseating on you guys for over a decade, and this past weekend the agents had a possible policy change that caught me unaware.

This past Friday out of SAN, one agent brought out some form for me to fill out, but another agent said I didn’t. I did not fill it out and boarded with a Jumpseat boarding pass. Checked in with the captain and took a seat in the back.

On Sunday, out of SMF, I check in, get C4 boarding, but when I goto board, I get sent back to the gate counter to fill out that same form that I didn’t have to on Friday. I board, check in, the gate, the Capt and I each keep a copy of this form.

My question is, was there a policy/procedure change recently/over the weekend that I missed? Is one station doing it incorrectly? Should I be asking to fill this thing out or declining it?

I think it depends on station to station. I was wondering the same thing when I've jumpseated recently. One has it and one place doesnt

I was told it was a new policy for offline Jumpseater to have the paper form. Supposedly just temporary while they figure out some stuff with the new system.

It has to do with accountability of who is sitting in a seat vs on jumpseat form. People have been getting on via "getting a seat" vs signing up for the jumpseat and grabbing a seat if there is one open. The problem is nobody is coming up and asking for a ride. One doesn't have non-rev privilege like my family member so one needs to play the game. You need to fill it out and talk to pilots unless you are listed as a jumpseat rider which you will get normal form. I wouldn't just hop on your airline without asking for a ride even if given a seat like some do.

If this is the case, it is the first I have heard of it. Why would the form make someone come up and introduce themselves?
Offline riders should be coming up and introducing themselves even if they have a boarding card with a seat in the back, but that isn’t the procedure for all airlines, so I get the confusion.
When I am riding own company metal and I get a seat in the back, I absolutely say hi if it is convenient, but won’t slow boarding to make it happen. If I am jumpseating offline I will always say hi unless I get to do it up top.

Pretty sure the form says to check in w the pilots and give them a piece of it. I believe there was an email or something about it.
