Default Kudos to Flight Crew

Thanks a million to the SWA flight crew today who saw me left at the gate when the ATL gate agent closed 1/3 empty flight at 13 mins prior.

Without expectation from me, the pilots told the agent as they were handed the paperwork to get the JS'r on and viola, in about 3 mins later I was on the jet with the door closed 5 mins prior to departure.

Without a doubt, unless the flight crew noticed and intervened, it was gonna be a long day in ATL! As they say in SOCAL sanctuary cities, muchos gracias!

Same experience. Arrived at the gate 6 minutes before departure. Gate agent was already down at the plane. Then I see a thumbs up in the cockpit window. Made it on and left 1 minute early.

Do whatever you can to make yourselves known to the flight crew. Stand in the window waving with your ID if that’s what it takes. There are many proactive pilots in our ranks.

Where does this flight that's only 1/3 full originate from?
I have not been on a plane that was not largely oversold in ages.

Yes, Great Crew!

ATL.... yeah I was surprised as well, every middle seat plane wide was empty. That's why I was so bewildered once on that the gate agent originally said no with 13 mins left, I figured it was probably filled to the gills, but when I got on, lots of seats and room for bags.

Thanks again SW crew!

Poor service from an ATL gate agent??? No way. Though I am surprised to see that at SWA. Never had an issue with a SWA employee. Even had a few gate agents struggle for 30+ minutes to get me on the jump seat after SWA went to the computerized system.

Over the last decade, our ground ops employees have increasingly been subjected to too much metrics and not enough common sense. That plus our new non-rev-friendly reservation system has made us a whole lot less easy to jumpseat on than we used to be. Flight Ops has become the last bastion of "trying to do the right thing" on the frontline, though there is some slight evidence here & there that a course correction may be forthcoming...

In the meantime, do what at6d said. I'll be watching for you.

My friend, while I don't disagree with you, SWA could double the pay and give a free Uber ride form the burbs and still have trouble finding people without Atlantatude.
