The union is made up of SWA Pilots for SWA Pilots, defending the interest of the pilot group whilst promoting the success of the company. Period.

Intelligent posts on this very thread have been made about the intention behind this suit. It’s obvious of its intent. What is left to question? Throwing darts at a motive when it’s already presented clearly...

“We are suing for ‘A’”...

“Okay, so you’re suing for “B”?”

“No we are suing for “A””

... on it goes ...

It’s not ambiguous.

Didn't the AA pilots file suit as well, or was that for negligence?

So if SWAPA is suing for lost potential income, couldn’t passengers do the same to airlines if flights are delayed? I realize carriage rules, but I don’t think they address lost compensation possibilities due to a late flight.

Could be an interesting argument/precedent.

Well for starters, SWA has been proactive about cancelling flights months ahead of time and rebooking/rerouting customers so I don’t know what they could be mad about.

Wasn’t referring to the Max, just delays/cancellations in general. I’m sure Boeing has clauses in purchase contracts for unforeseen problems.

If a judge says Boeing should have had a backup plan etc, what’s to say someone couldn’t sue an airline and say the same. The way courts work, could be a slippery slope.

Boeing did it with an attempt to deceive. They knew they had the MCAS and hid it. We didn't knowingly schedule a flight that we knew we were going to cancel or operate 2 hours late.

It’s America. You can file a lawsuit because you don’t like the color socks that I’m wearing. I’m sure someone will sue SWA over the MAX fiasco and their travel plans. That’s fine. It’s the way a “free” country is supposed to work.

I’m glad SWAPA sued. My union is aggressively protecting my interests.

I also think we have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. Sucks, but that’s the reality of going against a trillion dollar company’s lawyers.

I agree with first part but not necessarily the second as I do think there’s a chance for a settlement.

For those on the outside, SWAPA did in fact try to negotiate some form of compensation deal but Boeing wasn’t interested in it. Thus the lawsuit.
