737 Type Rating (Post-9/11 GI Bill)

Hey everyone -

I'm about to finish my master's degree and will have enough remaining credit on my Post-9/11 GI Bill that I figure it wouldn't hurt to get a 737 type to increase marketability to Southwest Airlines.

Anyone recommend a particularly 737 type training company that accepts VA benefits? I know Higher Power Aviation used to be 'the place' to get it done, but it appears they were bought out and the type course no longer exists.

Thanks in advance!

V

You meet all the other requirements?

If I had to get a type I'd look at k&s aviation, but I think there are much better uses of time and money. Southwest People department will even tell you to NOT get the type.

Are you a military pilot?

Plus it use to be a deterrent for other companies to look at you cOs they knew you wanted SWA....airline apps even has a box to tick for 737 type I believe 🧐

You may want to consider making an intermediate career stop somewhere that flies the 73 and provides the type rating as part of their training. Get paid while having someone else pay for your 73 type.

Depends on your personal situation

Just a 73 type from the cheapest training provider is not going to get the red carpet rolled out.
Again.....do you meet all the other requirements?

K&S is a good outfit. They are good with VA too.

The type still counts for a lot of points on the application. If you want SWA then get the type. If you don’t care who you work for the type won’t hurt you like it used to....but it’s not worth your time since it only gives you SWA points.

Again, if you want SWA, get the type. In a field of people with less and less having the type, it makes you stand out more than ever.

I'm rapidly approaching hiring minimums and have a GI Bill that's going to waste since I have my master's degree; sounds like it doesn't hurt and is still worth some points.

If you aren’t using it then might as well just make sure to go to a reputable place so you give yourself best chance to pass

I’m wondering if a type rating with no experience on type is worth anything.
Why don’t you try and get a job with a decent company that flies 73, get the type for free and 700-800hrs/year?
After 500 hrs start applying at SW?
