Hiring / Interviewing or NOT ?

Hello

RE: MAX situation, I am on rumor #1,302 on hiring/interviewing.

My availability is March 2020

1. Is SWA Interviewing CURRENTLY ? How far out from availability will they interview guys ?

2. Is SWA HIRING ? Or are the interviewee's going into a "Pool" (which is they only way I can figure it out...) which historically has not been a SWA "thing"

3. I have just about ALL the boxes checked except 737 type. Crickets. "Received Submission" on ICIMS page. Crickets.

4. App has been reviewed. Am told it is "solid".

Did I say crickets ?

Thank you

I’m flying with an interviewer this week . He says they have one more week of interviews in November and then they’re done for the year. No word yet when they’ll start up again but he believes it won’t be until we have an actual timeline on the Max return to service. We are currently overstaffed on pilots.

Can’t answer your question about the current state of interviewing, but I can comment on the timeline.

I had an availability of Feb or March 2018. Crickets through summer 2017. Went to job fair in Sep 2017, had invite the next week.

I got lucky and snagged a spot at the job fair which allowed me to interview and get the call several months in advance of my availability. For regular invites they don’t appear to work that far in advance.....sucks when you are trying to plan ahead, but it’s just the way it is.

I recently interviewed with SWA and there were three pilots interviewing at the same time that had March 2020 separation dates. During a briefing with all the candidates Southwest made it clear they were willing to work with those pilots as needed.

SWA is hiring and we were told that successful candidates should expect a 2nd quarter class date. I‘m sure that timetable will move depending on their needs.

Good luck!

I read somewhere that we're overstaffed by 1000 pilots. In the same paragraph, they also said that once MAX comes back, we'll be understaffed by 500 pilots.

Looking at upgrades, looks like 12/month for the next 3 months.

FWIW...

Going to 10k flying hrs a day. We're at 6-7 now. So probably...
Hopefully way more upgrades

Isn't it 34 out of 700+ airplanes in the fleet? It's hard to imagine either number being correct if that's the case.

It was 34 planes at the time of the grounding. I think we should have been at around 74-75 by now.

More like 2,000 overstaffed compared to previous years. The MAX coming back will help but we’ll still be overstaffed.
