Why no upgrade classes?
 
Why aren’t we running any upgrade classes right now? I can see putting off Initial classes, but why not keep moving the FO overstaffing bulge through the snake in FEB-MAY, before feeding it again this fall?

Probably because it costs 30% more to pay extra Captains than it costs to pay extra FO's.....

Yep. Pretty simple math equation. They are already spending hundreds of millions in extra dollars due to their staffing folly. Now they are in damage control mode.
Don't get me wrong, I think a huge growth spurt is coming in terms of ASM, it's just not coming before next year.

Probably because captains are still bidding straight on day trips that pay 3.... and two days that pay 10.... there is hurt on both sides.

Probably because we are overstaffed by about 800 captains right now. With no Max (growth), only retirements, there won’t be a need to upgrade any captains this year.
