Because SW has neither of those things I think a furlough is much easier than for our competitors (all things create equal). I am thankful for our balance sheet. Time will tell.....

Except all things are not created equal with SWA and the big 3.

I agree. We have a better balance sheet and we don't have the international exposure. All that to be said, I believe there is a good chance of furloughs with us and the big 3, just for different reasons.

Hoping for the best...

I see SWA taking one step back and 3 forward in this event once the dust settles.

How is he/she wrong? I think it is very prudent in these times to plan for the worst and hope for the best. I do not see any way through this without significant layoffs.

I am not a kool aid drinker. Far from it. Read my post history if you don't believe me.
I think that this company will do everything in its power to avoid a furlough scenario. SWA has a pile of cash that gives it significant runway to ride this thing out. It also has fairly low fixed costs to concern itself with compared to legacy airlines. Gary Kelly is a died in the wool accountant. He did not get the "Herb gene". He does, however, have a significant emotional investment in this company and a true desire to see this through with the company and all its people intact. His legacy and the company's future depend on it. Again, I am not a fan boy. I scoff at many of his decisions. I just give him credit where it is due. He has decades in this place for better or worse. He is not going to take some golden parachute and bail for another company.
I do not think we will furlough involuntarily. I think there will be a significant cut in our future schedules and some painful measures taken, but in the end, I think everyone who wants to work here will work here.
Again, let's revisit in a few months and I will gladly eat these words if I am wrong.

Fire away. I am a big boy.

I think if swa furloughs they lose a major feather in their cap and a big reason for a lot of us coming here. Not saying we’re all gonna jump ship because of it especially considering what will probably happen elsewhere, but I do see it impacting future hiring candidates if they have choices

You're thinking like a pilot. Think like a bean counter.
